More here...
We love cycling in China and think you will too! China is full of surprises and you will be amazed with what you will find here.
Why bicycle in China? With the world's largest population and largest cycling population, cycling in China is an unparalleled treat to those of us who grew up strapped into the seat of a car. We consider the bicycle the perfect means of transportation since it allows the body to keep pace with the mind.
This site is designed to help you plan a wonderful bicycle tour in China. At Bike China Adventures, Inc., we believe small groups enhance the experience.
Custom, Private and Small tours are all we do.
We offer custom private tours of small groups. This allows more spontaneity for stopping at interesting villages, or taking photos without having to be concerned about "keeping up with the group." This is because bicycle touring is very individualistic, and riding at your own pace and style will greatly enhance your experience in China.
For the uninitiated, we offer private introductory cycling tours that will teach you what you need to know to successfully tour in China, or anywhere else you ="ct-patandnic be interested in going. We will teach you the proper cycling techniques, adjust your bike so it best fits you and coach you on pacing yourself. Also we will teach you the basics of survival Chinese so that you can interact with the locals on your own.
Show and Go Options - No bike? No problem!
Getting a bike in China is easy. Diamondback mountain bikes with Shimano components are readily available at reasonable costs. We can advise on the selection of panniers and other equipment or provide it for you. Want to experience China from a bicycle, but don't feel up to pedaling all day? Perhaps an electric bicycle would be right for you. Electric bikes are readily available and can travel up to 80 kilometers on a single charge. Just let us know your needs.
Experienced Touring Cyclists - Full Tour or Short "Introduction" Rides
Get a tour designed to meet your abilities and interests be it fast-paced or slow-but-sure. We can show you the best parts of China at your pace and your convenience. We can also provide "Introduction Rides" that give you a "soft" landing at the beginning of doing a longer ride. This consists of having a guide ride with you for a week or so to show you how to deal with touring in China. Included are short language lessons, tips on safety, security and hygiene, and how to find a hotel.

Our method of operation is to run only private or custom tours with only small numbers of people (usually less than five but no more than eight). This means there is no regular schedule of tours. The way tours are set up, you provide the dates you would like to go and your requirements of dates, length of time, difficulty and interests (historical, scenery, cultural, etc.). You can choose from the list of tour options here, or if you have a particular area in mind we can design a new tour route for you. Go to the Tour Planner page and tell us your preferences. We will get back to you with a tour that meets your needs and fits your budget.
At Bike China, we strive to give you the best possible trip at a reasonable cost, without large groups. Small groups of eight or less are what we specialize in.
The cost of the tour is dependent on a number of factors:
- The number of people on the tour (the more people, the lower the per person cost)
- The location of the tour (some areas are more expensive to travel in than others)
- The amount of alternative transportation (such as airlines) used during the tour.
In general, the cost of a tour will generally be between US$90 and US$180 per day per person for an unsupported ride (meaning there will be no support vehicle - that each person will carry their own luggage throughout the trip). Alternative transportation (buses, trucks or taxis) will be used if necessary if members become too tired to continue, ill or time is insufficient to complete the ride before dark.
Prices include the following:
- Bilingual bicycle tour guide who will ride with you.
- All hotel accommodations.
- Meals eaten as group (private meals, snacks and alcoholic beverages are not included).
- All group transportation costs (buses, boats, and taxis).
- All group entrance fees.
- Optional support vehicle.
- Optional rental bicycle.
If you decide to do something on your own, you will be responsible for those costs.
Want to lower costs and/or travel with a group?
If you are interested in either reducing the cost, or having more people to share the experience with, you can open the tour up to others. Your tour would then get posted on the Bike China site. If others sign up, the price per person goes down. If no one signs up, then you have the option of doing the tour at the original quote, or canceling, at no cost to you (at least 30-days before the start of the tour date).
